I’m Jose Navarro and I’m running for school board in the Sacramento City Unified School District Area 3 to give back to my community.  I am proud product of the public school system in California.  As a young immigrant and English Language learner, I was encouraged by my teachers to become a lifelong learner and received the support to become a strong student.  Teachers loved having me as a student and I am forever grateful for the support I received from my teachers—which is why I am so proud to have received the endorsement from the Sacramento City Teachers Association.

With this education encouragement, I was able to attend the University of California at Berkeley with a major in Geophysics and while in the bay area I tutored and mentored kids from local middle schools and high schools.  I then came back to the Sacramento Valley, and I attended Sacramento State earning a degree in Computer Science and I now work for the State of California as Systems Software Programmer, one of the leading Information Technology positions in California. As an IT professional, every day I use my knowledge and skills to fix complex problems.

In giving back to my community, I want to use my professional knowledge and skill to help fix some of the dysfunction that remains in SCUSD.  When 300 students are unable to begin classes because they can’t be enrolled, when teachers and classified staff can’t be paid on time, when educators can’t provide services to students with disabilities because of technical difficulties, those are exactly the kind of problems I can offer my skill, knowledge, and ability to fix problems to move SCUSD on the right track.

I hope I can count on your support.
